Hebron-Patricia Fraser Baltz, 78, passed away peacefully in her Hebron home of 53 years on December 18th after a valiant battle with cancer.
Pat was born in Kingston, NY on April 14th, 1939 to Wanda and Clarence J. Fraser. She attended St. Joseph’s Elementary before graduating from St. Ursula’s Academy with high honors. Pat took a job as a teller at a local Kingston bank before joining the accounting department at Ballantine Beer Company. While employed there, a colleague introduced her to his former Marine Corps friend and her future husband, Albert Baltz.
Pat and Al were married in 1961 and left Kingston for Salem, New York, where Al’s father, Chester Arthur, Sr. wanted his youngest son to run the second of two C.A. Baltz & Sons garment factories.
The newlyweds found an old farmhouse on 50 acres in nearby Hebron and they lived there first with their sons, Larry and Phillip and later as a couple until Al’s death in 2015 and her passing earlier this week.
Pat began taking evening classes at Adirondack Community College beginning in 1976. She continued her studies, ultimately obtaining a Master’s of Arts degree in 1988 through an affiliation with SUNY Plattsburgh.
Following graduation, “Principal Pat” as she became known to the women at ACC Clerical Training, helped student participants to develop essential career skills to acquire gainful employment. Later, Pat became a copy editor for The Post Star, utilizing her sharp eye for grammar and editing.
Beyond her husband and sons, Pat loved spending her time reading history and fiction—from suspense novels to great literature. She was a New York Times crossword puzzle wizard, and a champion Scrabble player. She enjoyed being part of local bridge and bowling clubs for much of her life. Pat and Al’s close family of friends they made upon arriving in Hebron were deeply cherished until the end of her life.
Pat was predeceased by her sister Linda Fraser Douglass and is survived by her brother Barry John Fraser and his wife LucyAnne Walker-Fraser of Tallahassee, her two sons Lawrence Clay Baltz and his wife Christine Alotta of Sag Harbor, NY and Phillip Roger Baltz and his wife, Christina Grdovic of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Emelia Grace Baltz and Henry Fraser Baltz.
She joined her beloved husband Al at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on December 21, 2017.
