Going Green

Think Green!

Beaver Ross and Elizabeth Nichols-Ross, owners of Ackley & Ross Funeral Home in Cambridge, attended a seminar on Green Funerals and Green Burials.  Speakers included Joe Sehee, founder and executive director of the Green Burial Council and Darrin Crouch, president of Passages International, Inc, a company specializing in eco-friendly funeral products.  Beaver and Elizabeth believe that it is important to offer green funerals and green burials to the community.  They are taking the necessary steps to receive their certification through the Green Burial Council to become a Green Funeral Provider.  They are also talking to a local cemetery about creating a “green section” in the cemetery and are in hopes that someday a Green Cemetery Land Preserve might be created.  As Elizabeth says, “ We are only beginning.  We know in our hearts that southern Washington County, with its beautiful landscapes and concern for the environment, would be a wonderful place for the conservation of the land and the burial needs of the future to be joined.”  For more information on green funerals and green burials visit www.greenburialcouncil.org and www.aGreenerFuneral.org
