Catherine Marie Novello
Cambridge Catherine Marie (Crowell) Novello, 90, passed quietly into our Lord’s arms at home on Thursday, March 4, 2010 where she joined her loving husband, John (Jack) Michael Novello.
Born September 23, 1919 in Brooklyn, she was the last surviving child of Maurice L. and Fannie (Hottenroth) Crowell. Catherine and John lived in Bellmore, Long Island where she was a member of St. Barnabus Catholic Parrish. When her husband John served as the State Commander of the VFW she supported him by preparing “banquet-like” meals enjoyed after the meetings. She was a member of the VFW Post # 2770 Auxiliary. She and John would deliver baskets of fruit and chocolates to veterans in hospitals and shut-ins on a weekly basis.
Jack died in 1971. Catherine chose to move to Cambridge in 1977 and made it her home. She enjoyed being near her nephew, John Nelson and his family who loved her dearly.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, where she volunteered many hours of service.
Catherine enjoyed car trips, Bingo and lottery scratch tickets. She was an excellent homemaker and loved experimenting with new recipes. She was a compassionate woman who shared her time, love and life experiences with her family and friends.
Her nephew John L. Nelson and her great-niece Wendy Kenyon predeceased her.
Her niece by marriage, Frances Nelson; a great nephew, John E. Nelson; a great-niece Dale Ann Bates; three great-great nephews Shawn, Michael and John M. and two great-great nieces, Baylee and Helen, survive her
At her request there will be no local services.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY where Catherine will be buried with her beloved husband.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to St. Patrick’s Church, 17 South Park Street, Cambridge, NY 12816 or the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 52, Cambridge, NY 12816.
