Sally Lou (Bauer) Percey

Cambridge Sally Lou (Bauer) Percey, 58, of Chestnut Hill Road, died peacefully Tuesday,      March 2, 2010 at Sunny View Rehabilitation Hospital, Schenectady, with her loving family by her side.  She was the adored wife of David S. Percey.

Born May 7, 1951 in Oceanside, Long Island, she was the daughter of the late Vernon W. and Delphine S. (Wofsey) Bauer.  She graduated from Oceanside High School. She and her husband moved to Cambridge in 1990.

Sally devoted her life to children and her goal in life was “to save the world one child at a time.”  In addition to being the biological mother of two wonderful children and the adoptive mother of one, she was the foster care mother of over 50 children.  Sally was instrumental in helping to place at least two children with loving adoptive families in the Cambridge area, a gift for which they will be eternally grateful.

Sally’s petite size and kind manner disguised the heart of a fighter.  She fought a courageous battle with emphysema for over 10 years.  She fought for the rights of children everywhere.  Every day that Sally had was a gift that she filled with laughter and joy.  She had a wonderful sense of humor and tried to see the positive side of every situation.

When a person became a friend of Sally’s, they were a friend forever. Sally had a directness that was refreshing and she listened carefully without judgment. She leaves behind her friend of over 30 years, Pat Collins of Long Island and Marlene Perry of Cambridge, who writes, “The last eight years were far too short.  Tuesday’s will never be the same.  Maxine and I are going to miss you so very much.  We will think of you each time we read our calendar of wisdom. I love you and know you are finally breathing easy.”

Despite the challenges she faced leaving her home due to her illness, Sally had a vast network of friends that she kept in contact with through the Internet.  She was able to participate in her local community through her computer and became an early member of the Cambridge Valley Chamber of Commerce, volunteering to design and manage its website during that time.  She also constructed and managed the Cambridge Hotel website and owned her own website design and consulting business.  Sally was a supporter of the Cambridge Youth Commission and Cambridge Youth Cheerleading.  She enjoyed Internet shopping and scrapbooking.

Along with her devoted husband of 16 years she is survived by a son, Bill Link and wife Melissa Drysdale of Chicago, IL, two daughters, Michele Trichos and husband Bill of Lisbon, Portugal and Dara-Lynn Percey of Cambridge; two brothers, Alan Bauer and wife Debra Gugig-Bauer of Altamont and Mike Bauer of Islip, L. I.; two nieces, Dawn Lombardo and Kristy Bauer; a great-niece, Alyssa Lombardo; a cousin, Diane Collins of Islip and a very special grandson, Maison Dufty of Cambridge.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 5 to 8 PM at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge.

A celebration of Sally’s life will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 11 AM at the Embury United Methodist Church, 41 East Main Street, Cambridge.  A reception will follow.

Burial will be in the spring.

Sally will be remembered as a loving mother, an adoring wife, a devoted sister, a best friend forever and Punkin’s Grammy.  She touched so many lives and she will remain in our hearts forever.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Village of Cambridge Youth commission, P. O. Box 271, Cambridge, NY 12816.

I had the honor of meeting Sally back in 1997. She connected me to my biological mother. Sally was such an amazing woman. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. The world is such a better place with people like Sally. It always brings a smile to my face when I think about her. She touched so many people.
