Geraldine Joyce (Hunt) Harwood
Salem Geraldine Joyce Harwood, 71, of Coon Lane died Friday, February 12, 2010 surrounded by her loving family at Glens Falls Hospital after a brief illness. She was the beloved wife of Walter Alton Harwood, Sr.
Born Saturday, October 22, 1938 in the Town of Pittstown, she was one of the 13 children of Harry J. and Addie Barnhart Hunt. She graduated from Hoosic Valley High School, class of 1955 and married Walter several months later. First they lived in Hoosick Falls and then for many years on Ash Grove Road in Cambridge before moving to Salem.
While raising a family of seven children she found time to work at Orvis in Manchester, Vermont. More recently she was a seamstress at Chelsea Designs, manufacture of equestrian wear, in Cambridge.
Geraldine liked camping. She and Walt spent part of each summer camping at Crown Point. One of her favorite events was the annual vacation that she and her daughters went on. They called it “Their Girlie Thing.”
She is predeceased by her 12 siblings, including her sister, Joan Marie Hunt who died January 30, 2010.
Along with her husband of 54 years, Geraldine is survived by her seven devoted children and their families, Adonica J. Harwood and Walter A. Harwood, Jr., both of Salem, Bonnie Barbito of Kent, NY, Lucinda Harwood and Darryl Harwood, both of Hebron, Eric J. Harwood of Granville and Sondra Baker of Pawlet, VT. There are many grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces andgreat-nephews.
At her request there are no calling hours.
A graveside funeral service for Geraldine and her sister Joan, will be held Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 10:30 am at Island Hill Cemetery in Buskirk.
Geraldine was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

Walter and family,we are so sorry to hear about Gerri, she was a wonderful person. We had some good times camping together with you’s and Don and Rita and the family.

sorry for your loss walter she was a great women. i went to school with eric & sondra.i spent alot of time with family years ago and you all had a great mom & grandmother. she is in the lords hands now watching over her children ,.may she rest in peace.
