Patrick J. Sexton

Cambridge  Patrick John Sexton, Jr., 57, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 25, 2009.  He was the husband of Olive C. (Gallagher) Sexton.

Born October 28, 1952 in Dublin, Ireland, he was the son of the late Patrick J. and Leana (Browne) Sexton. After graduating high school, Patrick joined the British Army and spent 12 years in the military.

He and Olive married on July 14, 1972.

In 1987 the family immigrated to the United States and lived in Hoosick Falls.  Patrick worked for Fairdale Farms and then for the Boston and Maine Railroad. During the winter months he worked for the William E. Dailey Company.

After their youngest son, Shaun, graduated from Hoosick Falls High School, Patrick and Olive moved to Cambridge in 2000.  In 2004, they both became United States citizens.

In 2003 Patrick suffered a severe brain injury as the result of an accident. Since his recuperation, he has worked as a self-employed carpenter and woodworker.  He was very talented and made many beautiful items including butcher block cutting boards and hope chests.

Before his accident Patrick was a very sociable gent who loved pub debates and watching sports with his friends.  After the accident, which affected his frontal lobe, he became withdrawn and life was much more difficult for him.

He enjoyed working on his computer and being with his family.

Patrick was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Cambridge and Holy Cross Catholic Church in Salem.

Along with his beloved wife he is survived by three sons, Danny and wife Becky of Durham, NC, Richard of Anchorage, Alaska and Shaun of Clifton Park; three grandchildren, Caitlin, Liam and Kaden; five siblings, Kathleen Puge and Mary Nuccolle of Spain, Josie Mullins, Jimmie Sexton and Michael Sexton, all of Ireland; several nieces and nephews; his goddaughter, Brigid Toleman and his “Best Buddy” James Toleman.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, 73 West Main Street, Cambridge from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Liam Condon at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Salem on Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 10 AM.  Cremation will follow and Patrick’s ashes will be taken by his son to Ireland where they will be buried with his late parents.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Cambridge Valley Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 52, Cambridge, NY 12816.

    Dear Olive and Family,
    Sorry to hear about the loss of Pat, Pat was a Kind, Sweet man, I can remember the days he use to come in Stewarts in Hoosick falls for his coffee and chat up a storm, funny as ever as well …. he will be greatly missed….. he was so young to leave this world….remember the good times u have shared with Pat….. Olive someday you will be with Pat again.. cherish the memories, hold them close to your heart……

    Our hearts are saddened over the loss of Patrick. He was truly a wonderful man that we were blessed to become friends with.
